David gets a Girlfriend?

You heard right! It's possible we will
have an addition! A coworker of mine
is moving far away and wanted a
fellow cat lover to take car of her "Tootsie".
I am worried David might not accept her.
Or play a little rough than her liking. D:
Does anyone have suggestions on the
introduction of a new cat to a home? Any
help is appreciated!

  1. Congrats on your maybe new addition! First and foremost, give Tootsie her own place. Like a spare room or bathroom. So she can get can use to her NEW surroundings. Makes sure you love on her while she's in there--and eventually David will warm up--he might from the very beginning... :) Good Luck!

  2. Hi! I saw you were following me so I headed right over. I'm an only cat so no suggestions on that front... but she does look sweet.

Hey I think I'll follow you too!

  3. Like Noir said, keep them seperate at first til their used to each other. And she's used to the new environment. Might even try a gate in the doorway so they can see each other and get used to each other.

  5. Congrats on the possible new addition. We have only added kittens but one thing we did is have our kitties sleep with a small blanket and the kitten sleep with something and then try to bring the items to the others (so kitten blanket to the cats, cats blanket to the kitten) so they would learn each others smell ahead of time. I also slept with the blanket we brought to the kitten so he would get used to me too. So you could take something they like (a toy or blanket)and try that a couple days ahead of time to get the smells to each of them.

  7. PS: Is it just me, or does she look a lot like David's ceramic friend?

  8. I have always left the old cat "find" the new cat. Put the new cat in the carrier, and place in the basement or another out of the way place. go about your business. old cat finds new cat and eventually comes to get you. say "what?" play stupid. go with old cat to new cat . let him show you. say "what's this"? "where did you get this"? look amazed! mutter something about "well, i guess we will have to feed him...then proceed with giving new kitty a room with a baby gate. It will all unfold from there, eventually one cat will jump the gate. all should be well.
